ABC's of the W-4
Learn how to get the most out of your tax return.  This class will teach you all about valuable tax credits, how to fill out key forms correctly, and how to avoid trouble with the IRS.

Budgeting and Household Expenditures

Learn how to manage your money and create a monthly budget.  This class is critical for anyone having money trouble.

Credit Reports and Debt
Learn how to obtain, analyze and interpret your credit reports.  Also learn how to identify any potential debt, threats of identity theft, and discuss strategies for rebuilding credit history and using credit positively.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid
Get help completing your FAFSA – the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FAFSA is the key for current and future college students to get financial aid. This includes federal, state, and college-sponsored financial aid, grants, educational loans, and work-study programs. You will learn how to use the FAFSA to get the most money you can to help with school.

To complete your own FAFSA in class, please bring:

• Student's driver's license and social security card

• Parent's social security card

• 2004 or 2005 federal income tax returns and related records

• Current bank statements, including investments

• Alien registration card (if not a U.S. citizen)

Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers
An ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is a unique, permanent number for individuals who do not have and are not eligible to obtain a valid Social Security Number (SSN). The ITIN is to be used for tax processing purposes only and does not entitle the holder to Social Security benefits nor does it change employment or immigration status under US law.

Applicants need two ORIGINAL, unexpired documents: One which substantiates foreign/alien status and the other to verify the identity of the applicant. At least one of the documents should include a recent photograph. Only a valid un-expired passport will be accepted by itself.

If no, then you might be missing out on tax credits available to you that may increase your federal tax refund or lower your tax payment. Learn how to manage your tax credits and understand other tax issues. (Free workshop)

This workshop is for anyone who lives in or around Lawndale and wants to take advantage of the great free services provided by NLEN - the North Lawndale Employment Network. NLEN is a Center for Working Families and has people ready to help you find a job, polish your resume, and boost your money skills.

Saving for the Future
Learn how to set financial goals, and establish plan to reach those goals.  Discuss strategies to increase savings and build assets through depository accounts, retirement plans, IDA's, and other financial products and services.
