Employees connect to valuable benefits through new Chicago Supports Workers Initiative

Pick up a newspaper and you’re likely to read about some disturbing trends. Health care costs are on the rise, insurance can be difficult to come by, wages are shrinking, and many employees aren’t taking full advantage of benefits that can help them ease these worries. In fact, many employees just don’t know these benefits exist or that they are eligible for them.

With these concerns in mind, an exciting new pilot effort was designed to help ease the stresses of everyday life for Chicago workers. Dubbed ‘Chicago Supports Workers’, this new initiative from the Center for Economic Progress is working to help employees of large local organizations gain access to important programs and benefits they may not be aware of.

In cooperation with the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, the City of Chicago and RealBenefits, the Center’s Chicago Supports Workers initiative will partner with four large local employers to bring health insurance screening and enrollment, tax assistance, financial education and savings and credit education to hundreds of Chicago workers.

“This initiative gives the Center an important opportunity to reach out to hard-working families and individuals throughout the Chicagoland area and help support both employers and employees with access to important benefits,” remarks Mary Ruth Herbers, Senior Director of Programs at the Center for Economic Progress. “We believe this type of program will help ease the personal stresses of employees and enhance their work and relationship with their employer.”

Employers selected include ARAMARK Regional Staffing Center, Mercy Hospital, and Hyatt Regency Chicago on the River Walk.
